IMC-IBA- Seminar on
'Indian Banks & the Global Challenges'
January 31, 2006 - Hotel Taj President

Indian Merchants' Chamber (IMC) and Indian Banks' Association (IBA), jointly organized a one day seminar on 'Indian Banks and the Global Challenges' on Tuesday, January 31, 2006 at Hotel Taj President, Mumbai.

The Seminar was inaugurated by Mr. V Leeladhar, Deputy Governor, Reserve Bank of India. Mr. Rajesh Kapadia, President, IMC delivered the Welcome Address and Mr. H N Sinor, Chief Executive, IBA made a theme presentation.

In the first session on 'Retail Banking : Strategies for the Future' the speakers included Mr. Bhaskar Ghose, Managing Director, Indusind Bank Ltd., Dr. P Harshvardhan, Director, The Boston Consulting Group (I) Pvt. Ltd. and Mrs. Soundara Kumar, General Manager, State Bank of India.

Mr. R N Ramanathan, Deputy Managing Director (IT), State Bank of India, Mr. V G Subramanian, Advisor (CBS Implementation) Bank of Baroda and Mr. Deepak Ghaisas, CEO, India Operations & CFO, I-flex Solutions Ltd., spoke on 'Technological Challenges in Banking Operation'

In the third session on 'Outsourcing Opportunity : Strategic & Operational Level, the speakers included Mr. M V Nair, Chairman & Managing Director, Dena Bank, Mr. H Srikrishnan, Executive Director, Yes Bank Ltd. and Mr. Shailesh V Haribhakti, Managing Partner & CEO, Haribhakti Group.

The last session was a Panel Discussion on 'Global Footprints of Indian Banks'. Mr. T S Bhattacharya, Managing Director & Group Executive (Corporate Banking), State Bank of India, chaired the session. Other panelist included Mr. S Sridhar, Executive Director, EXIM Bank, Mr. Piyush Goyal, Director, State Bank of India, Mr. Leo Puri, Director, Mckinsey and Co. and Mr. Krishnan Sitaraman, Head, Financial Sector (Rating), CRISIL Ltd.

The Seminar was well received by the banking fraternity and all Speakers responded to a series of interesting questions from the participants.
