IBA in conjunction with IBM organized
a Seminar on Cheque Truncation System
(CTS) on 6th September, 2005 at Taj Mahal
Hotel, New Delhi & on 9th September,
2005 at Hotel Taj West End, Bangalore.
Around
108 participants took part in the event
at Delhi and 45 participants at Bangalore.
Dr. Barman, Executive Director, Reserve
Bank of India delivered the Key Note Address
and expressed his pleasure in inaugurating
the IBA seminar on CTS. He emphasized
that this project is of national importance,
and requested all banks to be prepared
to meet the time lines that RBI has set
forward.
Mr.
Kaza Sudhakar, GM RBI emphasized on the
regulatory perspective of CTS and the
need for presenting banks to be prepared
for Cheque Truncation as plans to start
parallel run is in the first week of February.
He explained how CTS can benefit banks,
operating costs can be reduced and banking
productivity can be enhanced.
Mr.
K.S. Bajwa, GM IT Punjab National Bank(at
Delhi & Bangalore) and Shri Atul Kumar,
Chief Manager, Syndicate Bank(at Bangalore)
provided bankers insight to CTS. They
spoke about business opportunities that
CTS could offer including a collaborative
framework for smaller banks.
Mr.
Ravi Trivedy, Partner and Head Financial
Service Sector, Business Consulting gave
a perspective of Business Process Re-engineering
required for embracing Cheque Truncation
and the challenges associated with it.
Mr.
Sekar Ponniah, Managing Director, Global
Software Solutions spoke about the solution
currently available to overcome the challenges
currently faced by the Indian Banking
Community and what makes a good CTS.
Mr.
Dharanibalan Gurunathan, IT Specialist
working with IBM Global Services (I) Private
Limited, discussed the technology options
available for banks to embrace and mitigate
the various risks and challenges towards
implementing a good CTS. He also emphasized
the need for a service methodology framework
and ability to scale to the simultaneous
eruptive need of CTS implementation.
