MICR cheque processing was introduced between 1987 and 1989
at 4 Metropolitin Centres. The system was gradually extended
to the clearing zones also with the increased demand for MICR
stationery it was decided to lay down parameters for printers
for empanelling. The scheme envisages technical capability security
arrangements quality control measures and accounting procedures
(including accounting of waste) etc. The Empanellment of Security
Printers which was being carried out by RBI was entrusted to
the Association in the year 1997. The Scheme also extends to
MICR grade paper manufacturers. For details of the scheme please
