ANNUAL GENERAL MEETING
on August 29, 2003

The 56th Annual General Meeting of the Indian Banks' Association and the 16th annual General Meeting of Banks' Sports Board were held on August 29, 2003, at the Yashwantrao Chavan Centre at Mumbai. The Business Sessions were followed by Award presentations by Dr. Dalbir Singh, Chairman, IBA & Chairman and Managing Director, Central Bank of India, to the C.H. Bhabha Research Scholars of 2003 and Outstanding Sportsmen of 2002-2003 .

SEMINAR ON RISK MANAGEMENT IN BANKS IN THE CHANGING ENVIRONMENTS
Organised jointly with CRISIL On 3rd September, 2003 - At Hotel Taj Mahal, Mumbai
Background and Objective
Introduction of complex financial derivatives together with improvements in technology have lowered the cost of and expanded opportunities for hedging risk.
With the rapid growth in new tools, qualifying and interpreting risk measurements have become more important in the changing business and regulatory environment. These developments have enabled all banks to take a more pro-active view towards risk. Instead of only associating risk as a potential downside of their operations, increasing number of banks are considering how risk can be managed positively to enhance the firm's value.
In this background and objective, this seminar assumed importance.
In his Key Note Address, Shri V Leeladhar, Chairman, IBA and Chairman & Managing Director, Union Bank of India presented the highlights of IBA-CRISIL Survey on "Roadmap for implementing integrated risk management in Indian banks by March, 2005".

Shri D Ravishankar, Director, CRISIL- Investment & Risk Management Services, made a presentation through a case study on "Risk Management - Measuring, Monitoring & Management".
Shri D S Nagi, Chief General Manager, Department of Banking Supervision , Reserve Bank of India described the process of Risk Based Supervision.

Shri Sudipto Ghatak, Director - Credit Risk Management, Credit Suisse First Boston, Singapore threw light on International Developments in Risk Management.

Concluding remarks & Valedictory address was delivered by by Shri K Unnikrishnan, Senior Vice President(Policy), Indian Banks' Association.
The seminar was attended by Senior Executives in banks, financial institutions and trade bodies associated with the working of the institutional arrangements for debt restructuring and Asset reconstruction.
Another Seminar on Risk Management jointly organized with CRISIL and IIBF on December 3, 2003 at Bangalore.
